OAKDEN is a hidden whisky lounge one floor below the streets of Bongseon-dong, Gwangju. We spent more than 400 days building a basement bunker that feels warm, human and full of stories.
The name — OAK + DEN
OAK is the wood of the cask that slowly turns spirit into whisky. A DEN is a snug hideaway where people quietly gather.
Whisky matures slowly in oak; good conversations mature slowly among good people. That is OAKDEN.
A bunker beneath Bongseon-dong
Walk through Bongseon-dong, take one flight down, and time starts to move differently.
OAKDEN is less a formal lounge and more a hideout with a human touch. First-timers are treated like regulars, and solo guests are just as welcome.
400 days with a carpenter
We built OAKDEN with a real carpenter over more than 400 days, arguing over every detail. Guests often say the result is a space where luxury and handmade charm live side by side.
Don’t miss the restroom with the blue door — it accidentally ended up looking like the sea, and it has become our secret photo spot.
A bar that talks — and knows when to shush
Our bartenders like to chat, about whisky and about life.
If you would rather sip in peace, just give a quiet “shh” gesture. Drinking alone is respected here too.
